Hyper-V vs VirtualBox vs VmWare

VMware offers various products; VMware Workstation is similar to VirtualBox.

Hyper-V is a type 1 hypervisor, while VirtualBox and Workstation are type 2. Type 1 hypervisors run on hardware, including Windows 10/11 Hyper-V, which operates as a type 1 hypervisor.

Type 2 operates as an app atop the operating system.

Desktop/client virtualization has pros and cons with both types, depending on specific usage needs.

Type 1 hypervisors directly access machine resources, allowing them to apply custom resource allocation strategies for their virtual machines (VMs).

In contrast, Type 2 hypervisors rely on the operating system to negotiate resource allocation, which results in a slower and less efficient process.

Conclusion:

It depends on your usage using your hardware for better speed or app process for better memory usage.
